Every year, volunteers make an invaluable contribution to the operation of the organization. Volunteers are people like you who help repair, maintain, enhance, or promote over 14 miles of trail natural areas and assist with Educational or Special Events.

Tips for Finding a Volunteer Opportunity:

  • Consider your skills and interests: Think about what you enjoy doing and what skills you can offer.
  • Attend volunteer events: LPTC host volunteer events, such as trail work days, and education events for kids, where you can get involved.
  • Be flexible: Be open to different types of volunteer work and locations.

Volunteers are people like you who help repair,maintain, enhance,or promote over 14 miles of trail natural
areas and assist with Educational or Special Events.

Motorized vehicles are not allowed on the trail,however, you may see trucks or SUV’s occasionally. So why are
these allowed? These volunteers are performing various tasks, such as repairs or maintenance. If you plan on
working on the trail, always call the Christian County Sheriff’s Office and give them your name, where you will be
working and what kind of vehicle you’re driving.

Types of Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Trail Maintenance: This involves clearing debris, repairing erosion, and ensuring trails are safe and accessible.
  • Trail Repairs: Volunteers can help with construction repairs trails.
  • Adopt-a-Trail Segment: Partner with a local organization or group to take responsibility for a specific trail segment, ensuring its upkeep o reporting issues.
  • Trail Monitoring: Monitor trails for issues and report locations needing attention
  • Community Cleanups: Participate in trail or trailhead cleanups to remove litter and improve the environment.
  • Horticulture: Help with planting, weeding, watering and maintaining vegetation along the trail or at the trailheads.  Ecosystem restoration and preservation; endangered and exotic species control.
  • Assist with an Event: Such as a Bike Rodeo, Healthy Kids Day, Information Day, or Speaking to groups about the LPTC Mission

  • How do I sign up for an opportunity?

  • Can I earn student service learning hours?
    • Yes, an officer or board member can sign.
  • Is prior training or experience required?
    • Generally, training is not required, however, for some projects there will be a facilitator leading the project.
  • Am I covered by insurance in case of an accident?
    • You must sign a Waiver of Liability for the City of Pana before working on a project.  LPTC carries no liability insurance for volunteers, all volunteers should carry their medical insurance in case of accident.
  • Can I volunteer with a group or my family?

  • Is there a minimum age requirement?
    • All children under 18 must be supervised by a parent or guardian
